Great Britain’s Robson holds on for win at Red Rock Pro Open
Great Britain’s Laura Robson and former UCLA star Chanelle Van Nguyen played one of the longer singles matches during the first day of main draw singles player at the Red Rock Pro Open as the No. 6 seeded Robson held on to beat Van Nguyen in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3) in 2 hours, 53 minutes.
Also, in the final-round of qualifying, Russian Elena Bovina beat 17-year-old qualifying wild card Alana Smith, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (4).
The former Wimbledon Junior Girls’ champion at the age of 14, Robson is currently ranked
No. 243 on the WTA Tour World rankings.
The 23-year-old Australian native currently represents Great Britain and has won more than $1.5 million during her professional career.
