Tight end, special teams send Boise State past New Mexico
Tight end Jake Roh caught two touchdown passes and took a direct snap for a 6-yard TD run, and host Boise State pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat New Mexico 28-14 on Thursday in their Mountain West opener.
Two big fourth-quarter plays on special teams — Joel Velazquez’s 63-yard punt to the 1 and Avery Williams’ 29-yard punt return to the 17 — helped the Broncos (2-1) ice the outcome. The Lobos (1-2) turned to backup quarterback Coltin Gerhart after starter Lamar Johnson suffered a first-half concussion.
