Jagr, No. 2 career NHL scorer, let go by Flames

The Calgary Flames placed right wing Jaromir Jagr, 45, on waivers for the purpose of terminatin­g his NHL contract.

The Flames were the Czech native’s ninth NHL team. He is the active leader with 1,733 games, 766 goals, 1,555 assists and 1,921 points and is second to Wayne Gretzky on the all-time scoring list.

Jagr, 34 games shy of Gordie Howe’s NHL record, signed a oneyear, $1 million deal with Calgary for this season. He had one goal and six assists in 22 games.

Women’s skiing: At Lenzerheid­e, Switzerlan­d, Mikaela Shiffrin ended her six-race win streak in World Cup slaloms when she lost rhythm and veered off course with a lead of a full second in sight of the finish.

Men’s skiing: At Garmischpa­rtenkirche­n, Germany, six-time overall champion Marcel Hirscher of Austria breezed to his 55th World Cup victory in the last giant slalom race before the Olympics.

Racing won its third Rolex 24 at Daytona overall title, and Chip Ganassi Racing celebrated the organizati­on’s 200th victory with a win in the GT Le Mans class.

Soccer: At Carson, Calif., defenders Ike Opara and

Matt Polster made their U.S. national team debuts along with goalkeeper Zack Steffen in a 0-0 tie in an exhibition against BosniaHerz­egovina.
