Witnesses: Slaying victim tried to get into his home

-

A man accused of killing his neighbor Saturday told police he pulled the trigger when the neighbor ran toward him with a knife, according to police documents.

Witnesses, however, told investigators the neighbor was trying to get into his own home when shots were fired. The shooter then fired two more rounds into the man while he was on the ground, they told investigators.

Tony Quinonez, 28, was charged with murder Tuesday in the weekend slaying of his 45-year-old neighbor, Sadiq Abdush-shaheed. Quinonez and AbdushShaheed lived in the same apartment complex at 2895 E. Charleston

Boulevard, police said.

Police said the two men fought before the shooting and that Abdush-shaheed had stabbed Quinonez at least once in the head.
