Isotopes extend 51s’ losing skid
It was a Pacific Coast League slugfest Wednesday night as the Isotopes beat the 51s 17-11 at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to send Las Vegas to its fifth straight loss.
The 51s (1-6) got off to a promising start in the first inning, staking starter A.J. Griffin to a four-run lead. But Griffin couldn’t hold it, giving up two-run homers to Drew Weeks and Tom Murphy in the first.
From there, the runs kept coming. The bottom of the sixth inning was the first half inning without a run.
Albuquerque broke the game open with a five-run third. Three of those came on Raimel Tapia’s insidethe-park home run. Weeks followed with his second home run.
Griffin, making his first start, gave up nine runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings while walking three.
