Mariners 4, Royals 2 — At Kansas City, Mo., Kyle Seager hit a go-ahead homer with two outs in the eighth inning, and Seattle beat Kansas City. James Paxton matched a career-best with 10 strikeouts over six sharp innings for the Mariners.

Orioles 5, Blue Jays 3 — At Baltimore, Jonathan Schoop drove in two runs, Kevin Gausman (1-1) pitched six effective innings and Baltimore beat Toronto to avoid a three-game sweep.

Angels 7, Rangers 2 — At Arlington, Texas, Shohei Ohtani had an RBI single that put Los Angeles ahead to stay and was later picked off first base by one of his former Japanese teammates. San Francisco, Paul Goldschmid­t and John Ryan Murphy hit home runs and Arizona took two of three at AT&T Park. The Diamondbac­ks won their fourth straight series to start a season for the first time since beginning play in 1998.

Mets 4, Marlins 1 — At Miami, Marlins lefty Jarlin Garcia was pulled after pitching six hitless innings in his first major league start, and New York took advantage of a strong season debut by Zack Wheeler (1-0) to win its seventh straight.

Braves 5, Nationals 3, 12 innings — At Washington, Peter Bourjos drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the 12th inning and Atlanta’s bullpen finally made a lead stand up, helping the Braves beat Washington.

Brewers 3, Cardinals 2 — At St. Louis, Matt Albers got his first save for Milwaukee, retiring Kolten Wong and Dexter Fowler to strand a pair of runners, and the Brewers beat St. Louis.

Phillies 4, Reds 3, 12 innings — At Philadelph­ia, Scott Kingery hit a gameending sacrifice fly in the 12th, two innings after Odubel Herrera robbed the Reds of a home run, and Philadelph­ia completed a three-game sweep.

Cubs 13, Pirates 5 — At Chicago, Javier Baez homered twice for the second straight day and scored the go-ahead run on a daring dash around the bases, helping Chicago get its first home win.
