Athletics2,mariners1— At Seattle, Jed Lowrie hit a two-run homer in the first inning off Felix Hernandez (2-2), and Sean Manaea (2-2) held Seattle to one run on two hits over seven innings. Taylor Motter homered for the Mariners, who had won four straight. Harrison Bader hit a two-run homer to back Carlos Martinez (2-1), who blanked Cincinnati on two hits and struck out 11 in seven innings, handing the Reds their eighth straight loss and first four-game home sweep by St. Louis since 1949.

Padres 10, Giants 1 — At San Diego, Joey Lucchesi (2-0) held San Francisco to one run and struck out nine over six innings, fellow rookie Christian Villanueva homered, doubled and drove in three runs, and Jose Pirela was a home run short of the cycle and totaled three RBIS.

Rockies 6, Nationals 5 — At Washington, Ian Desmond hit a tiebreakin­g two-out homer in the ninth off Sean Doolittle (0-1), and Charlie Blackmon homered, doubled and drove in three runs for Colorado, which took three of four in the series.

Pirates 7, Marlins 3 — At Miami, Starling Marte went 5-for-5 with a ninthinnin­g home run and scored four runs for Pittsburgh (11-4), which improved to 7-0 in day games and headed home atop the NL Central.
