Astros 5, Yankees 1 — At New York, Justin Verlander (7-2) blanked the majors’ highest-scoring team until Greg Bird’s leadoff homer in the seventh, lowering his majors-best ERA to 1.11, and J.D. Davis hit a three-run homer.

Mariners 2, Rangers 1 — At Seattle, Marco Gonzales (5-3) worked 6 2/3 innings for Seattle while not allowing an earned run for a third straight start as the Mariners posted their majors-best 16th one-run win.

Rays 1, Athletics 0 — At Oakland, Calif., Mallex Smith’s bloop two-out single scored Bishop Gorman product Johnny Field from second in the 13th, and Jonny Venters posted his first save since 2011.

Twins 8, Royals 5 — At Kansas City, Mo., Miguel Sano hit a three-run homer, Eddie Rosario a three-run double and Mitch Garver a two-run double for Minnesota, which halted a four-game skid.

Indians 9, White Sox 6 — At Cleveland, Edwin Encarnacio­n homered and hit a tying three-run bloop double for Cleveland, which turned three Chicago errors into three unearned runs.

Tigers 9, Angels 3 — At Detroit, James Mccann hit a grand slam, and Leonys Martin also went deep to back Matthew Boyd (3-4), who allowed two hits in fiveplus shutout innings.

Red Sox 8, Blue Jays 3 — At Boston, Andrew Benintendi hit a three-run homer, a triple and a single, and J.D. Martinez also homered in Boston’s seventh win in nine games. Luis Guillorme hit a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh to help New York split a doublehead­er delayed more than 3 1/2 hours by rain. Charlie Culberson had a pinchhit, walk-off two-run homer in the ninth in the first game.

Brewers 8, Cardinals 3 — At Milwaukee, Jonathan Villar and Christian Yelich homered to back Brent Suter (5-3), who hit a two-run double, as Milwaukee won for the 10th time in 12 games.

Rockies 6, Giants 5 — At Denver, Chris Iannetta hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th, his eighth game-ending RBI and first since May 11, 2016. Evan Longoria had two doubles and three RBIS for San Francisco.

Dodgers 5, Phillies 4 — At Los Angeles, Yasmani Grandal singled home the go-ahead run in Los Angeles’ three-run eighth. Vince Velasquez took a no-hitter into the sixth for Philadelph­ia.

Diamondbac­ks 12, Reds 5 — At Phoenix, Nick Ahmed and Chris Owings each hit a three-run homer for Arizona, which lit up Homer Bailey (1-7) for eight runs, six earned, over four innings.

Marlins 7, Padres 2 — At San Diego, rookie Caleb Smith (4-5) held San Diego to one run on four hits in seven-plus innings, and Yadiel Rivera’s two-run single capped Miami’s four-run first.
