School district failing your kids

-

It is the end of another demoralizing week. Teachers were told we’re losing six licensed positions at our school because we have to cut close to $750,000. We are losing our business program, our child development program, a health teacher, a PE teacher, two counselors and one of our campus monitors (a 24-year employee). There are schools in the district cutting even more. Additionally, money set aside to purchase new science textbooks is going to be taken from us.

These are numbers. What the public doesn’t see is the faces that these numbers represent. We’re losing counselors and teachers who have worked hard to help students succeed. We are losing funding because our district offices didn’t have the foresight to plan ahead for a contract payout that they agreed to and signed. They have mismanaged funds and left our students, teachers and administrators to suffer the consequences.

It is the voices of parents and students that the district listens to. We need you to get angry. We need you to demand a change.

Our district is failing because the board of trustees and superintendent have failed us. Legislatures took away funds we would have received from the legalization of marijuana. They called an emergency session for a football stadium but ignore the needs of their students.

The only change we will see is if teachers and parents raise hell and demand change.
