Wisconsin receiver suspended after felony sex assault charge

Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus was charged with felony sexual assault, accused of misconduct involving two women at his apartment on April 22.

A 20-year-old junior from Macon, Georgia, Cephus was suspended by the team shortly after he was charged with third-degree sexual assault and second-degree sex assault of an intoxicate­d victim. Cephus denied wrongdoing in what he called a “consensual relationsh­ip.”

Louisiana State: A woman who had said wide receiver Drake Davis physically and psychologi­cally abused her has changed her statement, the Baton Rouge district attorney said. Davis, arrested Friday and free on $5,000 bond, is suspended indefinite­ly from the Tigers.

Louisville: Tight ends coach Chris

Klenakis was placed on administra­tive leave following his arrest on driving under the influence and other charges. Also, reshirt sophomore Tobias Little probably will miss the season after injuring his knee, the team said.

Colorado State: Doctors still haven’t determined why coach Mike Bobo, hospitaliz­ed since Aug. 12, has numbness in his feet, and offensive coordinato­r Dave Johnson said the coaching staff is unsure who will call plays in Bobo’s absence.

Ohio State: University trustees set a private Wednesday meeting to discuss the future coach Urban Meyer, the subject of an investigat­ion into the handling of domesticab­use allegation­s against a former assistant.

Michigan: Shea Patterson, a transfer who threw for 23 touchdowns in 10 starts at Mississipp­i, will start at quarterbac­k for the No. 14 Wolverines to open the season, coach Jim Harbaugh said.

Maryland: The Terrapins will wear a helmet sticker with No. 79 to honor former teammate Jordan Mcnair, who collapsed during a May practice and subsequent­ly died.

Minnesota: True freshman walk-on Zack Annexstad will start at quarterbac­k to open the season, coach P.J. Fleck said.

Bowls: A multiyear title sponsor deal was announced that will rebrand the Cactus Bowl, played in Arizona under various names since 1989, to the Cheez-it Bowl.
