Pitcher Eovaldi gets four-year, $68M deal to stay with Boston
Free-agent right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is staying with Boston, agreeing to a fouryear, $68 million contract.
A 28-year-old who has had two Tommy John surgeries, Eovaldi went 3-3 with a 3.33 ERA in 12 appearances with the Red Sox after being acquired from Tampa Bay on July 25. He had a 1.61 ERA in six postseason appearances spanning 22 1/3 innings.
Cubs: Closer Brandon Morrow, 34, who hasn’t pitched since July 15 because of a bone bruise in his right elbow, likely will miss the start of 2019 following arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow on Nov. 6, president Theo Epstein said. Also, Tommy Hottovy, 37, was hired as pitching coach to replace the departed Jim Hickey, 57.
Twins: Free-agent second baseman Jonathan Schoop, 27, an All-star in 2017, agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with Minnesota, which also agreed to a one-year, $800,000 deal with 26-year-old free-agent infielder Ronald Torreyes.
Indians: Right-hander Carlos Carrasco,
31, signed a four-year extension worth $47 million, with $37.25 million in new guaranteed money, through 2022.
Royals: Utility player Chris Owings, 27, agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with Kansas City, five days after being nontendered by Arizona.
Braves: Rick Kranitz, 60, was hired as Atlanta’s pitching coach, the same role he served for Philadelphia last season.
