Pitcher Eovaldi gets four-year, $68M deal to stay with Boston

Free-agent right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is staying with Boston, agreeing to a fouryear, $68 million contract.

A 28-year-old who has had two Tommy John surgeries, Eovaldi went 3-3 with a 3.33 ERA in 12 appearance­s with the Red Sox after being acquired from Tampa Bay on July 25. He had a 1.61 ERA in six postseason appearance­s spanning 22 1/3 innings.

Cubs: Closer Brandon Morrow, 34, who hasn’t pitched since July 15 because of a bone bruise in his right elbow, likely will miss the start of 2019 following arthroscop­ic surgery on his right elbow on Nov. 6, president Theo Epstein said. Also, Tommy Hottovy, 37, was hired as pitching coach to replace the departed Jim Hickey, 57.

Twins: Free-agent second baseman Jonathan Schoop, 27, an All-star in 2017, agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with Minnesota, which also agreed to a one-year, $800,000 deal with 26-year-old free-agent infielder Ronald Torreyes.

Indians: Right-hander Carlos Carrasco,

31, signed a four-year extension worth $47 million, with $37.25 million in new guaranteed money, through 2022.

Royals: Utility player Chris Owings, 27, agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with Kansas City, five days after being nontendere­d by Arizona.

Braves: Rick Kranitz, 60, was hired as Atlanta’s pitching coach, the same role he served for Philadelph­ia last season.
