Lightning stay hot, slip past Flames in shootout

J.T. Miller scored in the seventh round of the shootout as the surging Tampa

Bay Lightning beat the Calgary Flames 5-4 on Thursday.

Ondrej Palat, Steven Stamkos, Alex Killorn and Dan Girardi scored in regulation for the Lightning (27-7-2), who improved to 10-0-1 in their past 11 games. Louis Domingue made 34 saves, including seven in overtime.

Nikita Kucherov added two assists for Tampa Bay, which is 16-0 in Kucherov’s multipoint games this season.

Johnny Gaudreau and Sam Bennett each had a goal and an assist for the Flames (22-11-3), who led 3-1 after one. Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund also scored.

Making his fourth straight start, David Rittich had 32 saves for Calgary.

San Jose, Calif., Blake Wheeler assisted on three goals by Nikolaj Ehlers, including the go-ahead score with 3:07 left, for Winnipeg, which overcame a 44-24 shots disadvanta­ge to win for the sixth time in seven games and halt San Jose’s five-game win streak.

At Boston, David Pastrnak had a goal and two assists and Torey Krug a goal and an assist to back Jaroslav Halak, who had 24 saves in Boston’s first win over Anaheim in the teams’ past 10 meetings.

At Columbus, Ohio, Cam Atkinson scored on a penalty shot against Mackenzie Blackwood, who had 36 saves in his first NHL start, and winner Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 shots.

At Glendale, Ariz., Paul Bryon scored the go-ahead goal at 1:16 of the third period to back Carey Price, who had 36 saves in his 300th win, handing Arizona its seventh loss in eight games.

At Toronto, Auston Matthews had two goals and two assists, John Tavares also scored twice, and Morgan Rielly had four assists to back Frederik Andersen, who had 25 saves.

At Dallas, Patrick Kane had two goals and an assist and Alex Debrincat a goal and two assists as Chicago won a second straight for the first time since Oct. 25.

At Philadelph­ia, Carter Hart made 31 saves for his second straight win in his second NHL start, handing Nashville its ninth straight road loss.

At Pittsburgh, Bryan Rust scored twice to back Casey Desmith, who stopped 40 shots in Pittsburgh’s fourth win in five games.

At Vancouver, British Columbia, Bo Horvat and Jake Virtanen each had a goal and an assist to back Jacob Markstrom, who had 29 saves.

At Raleigh, N.C., Niklas Kronwall had a goal and an assist in support of Jonathan Bernier, who stopped 38 shots.
