South Florida finds no answer for Marshall in Gasparilla Bowl

Keion Davis ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries to lead Marshall past South Florida 38-20 at the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Florida.

Brenden Knox ran for 93 yards on 12 carries, all in the first half, for the Thundering Herd (94), who improved to 6-0 in bowls under coach Doc Holliday. The Bulls (7-6) lost on their home field and closed the season with six straight losses.

Kansas: Suspended freshman running back Pooka Williams punched an 18-year-old woman in the stomach and grabbed her by the throat on Dec. 5, an affidavit alleges. Williams’ attorney entered a plea of not guilty to a misdemeano­r charge of domestic battery.

Wisconsin: Sophomore Jack Coan will start at quarterbac­k in the Dec. 27 Pinstripe Bowl in place of third-year starter Alex Hornibrook, who is sidelined by a recurrence of concussion symptoms, coach Paul Chryst said.

Minnesota: Joe Harasymiak, 32, who coached Maine to a 20-15 mark in three seasons, including an FCS semifinal berth this year, was hired as the Golden Gophers’ defensive backs coach.

Ohio State: Urban Meyer, 54, who will retire as coach after the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl, will co-teach a course titled “Leadership and Character” in Ohio State’s college of business.

Michigan: Senior running back Karan Higdon, who has run for 1,178 yards this season, said he will skip the Dec. 29 Peach Bowl to prepare for the NFL draft.
