21 fatal crashes reported on state roads in January

January proved to be a deadly start to the new year on state roads.

Therewere2­1fatalcras­hesinthe first month of 2019, resulting in 22 deaths, the Nevada Department of

Public Safety announced Thursday.

In the same month last year, 20 fatal crashes resulted in 22 deaths.

“Our goal is to always reduce and eliminate fatalities on our roadways,” said Andrew Bennett, a Department of Public Safety spokespers­on. “Each of these 22 fatalities were preventabl­e and came down to human behavior. Traffic safety is a matter of choices that unfortunat­ely leads to the loss of life on our roadways.”

Clark County accounted for the majority of traffic fatalities, with 17 deaths in 16 fatal crashes. Fatalites in the county rose 13 percent from a year earlier, and fatal crashes increased 23 percent.

Statewide, there were six pedestrian deaths, a 50 percent increase from January 2018. Four of those deaths were in Clark County. clear up a warrant, and all warrants are handled by the court systems in each county.

The Highway Patrol asks anyone who has received one of these calls or texts to contact the local police department.
