Schofield, No. 1 Tennessee notch 19th straight victory

South Carolina couldn’t miss from 3-point range and still couldn’t put up much of a challenge against No. 1 Tennessee.

Admiral Schofield had 21 points and 10 rebounds as the top-ranked Volunteers defeated South Carolina 85-73 on Wednesday for their school-record 19th consecutiv­e victory.

The Gamecocks (12-12, 7-4 Southeaste­rn) made a season-high 14 3-pointers and shot 60.9 percent from beyond the arc but still trailed by double digits throughout the last 28 minutes.

Tennessee (23-1, 11-0) owns the longest winning streak in Division I and is 11-0 in league play for the first time.

Jordan Bowden scored 16 points, and Kyle Alexander, Jordan Bone and Lamonte Turner added 10 points each for the Vols, who made 25 of 49 2-point field-goal attempts and 9 of 20 3s.

At Villanova, Pa., Eric Paschall scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half for the Wildcats (20-5, 11-1 Big East), who dealt the Friars (14-11, 4-8) their fourth loss in five games.

At Stillwater, Okla., Jarrett Culver scored 19 points for the Red Raiders (20-5, 8-4 Big 12), who held the Cowboys (9-15, 2-9) to a season-low point total in their fifth win in six games.

At Tallahasse­e, Fla., Christ Koumadje had 20 points on 10-for12 shooting and 12 rebounds for the Seminoles (19-5, 7-4 Atlantic Coast), who dropped the Demon Deacons (9-14, 2-9) to 1-6 against ranked teams.

At Blacksburg, Va., Ty Outlaw scored 20 points for the Hokies (19-5,

8-4 ACC), who overcame a three-point halftime deficit to beat the Yellow Jackets (11-14, 3-9. At Fresno, Calif., Braxton Huggins scored 26 points, including a three-point play in the final 30 seconds that put the Bulldogs (18-6, 9-3) ahead to stay in their fourth win in five games. Alex Hobbs scored 18 points for the Broncos (11-14, 6-6).

At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., Keith Mcgee scored 20 points for the Lobos (11-13, 5-7), who sandwiched a 28-4 run around halftime to hand the Spartans (3-20,

0-11) their 14th straight loss.

At Logan, Utah, Sam Merrill scored 19 points for the Aggies (19-6, 9-3), who won for the eighth time in nine games. Justin James scored 26 points for the Cowboys (6-18, 2-9).
