SNevada book lovers can meet some of their favorite local authors Saturday when Henderson Libraries presents its sixth annual Local Author Showcase.

The free event at Paseo Verde Library will feature 60 local authors who will meet fans and sign books. The first session runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the second 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Kate Peraza, head of adult services at Paseo Verde Library, said the daylong event was created to celebrate the valley’s literary talent. “It’s an opportunity for us to showcase them and have people be able to come out and meet the creative talent they have in their community.”

This year’s showcase also will include a poetry panel from noon to 1 p.m. featuring Clark County poet laureate Vogue Robinson, inaugural Clark County poet laureate Bruce Isaacson, writer/poet Heather Lang Cassera and Nevada State College creative writing instructor Samuel Piccone.

“We’re sensing that there’s more poetry going on in

the valley,” Peraza says, and the showcase panel builds on Henderson Libraries’ regular slate of open mic sessions and poetry writing workshops.

Also participating will be book and paper conservator Michael Frazier from UNLV Special Collections & Archives, and Sean Hoade, who will offer “poetry on demand.”

The Local Author Showcase draws 300 to 400 people annually, Peraza says. “Every year it’s just continued to get bigger and better.”

Participating writers work in just about every literary genre, with mystery and romance being likely the most popular showcase genres. Peraza adds that this year’s showcase is notable in that it takes place during Henderson Libraries’ 75th anniversary year.
