White Sox near six-year, $43M contract with prospect Jimenez
The Chicago White Sox are nearing a sixyear, $43 million contract with touted outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez. The deal would include team options for 2025 and 2026 that, if exercised, would make the agreement worth $77.5 million over eight years.
The deal would nearly double the previous high for a player with no major league service. Jimenez, 22, batted .337 with 22 home runs at Double-a and Triple-a in 2018.
Phillies: Right fielder Bryce Harper got his first spring training hit for Philadelphia, a single off Detroit right-hander Spencer Turnbull, after a 0-for-9 start. The Las Vegas native has struck out six times and drawn five walks in 16 plate appearances.
Rays: Rookie infielder/outfielder Brandon Lowe, 24, agreed to a six-year, $24 million contract with club options and escalators that could make the deal worth $49 million over eight seasons.
Giants: President and CEO Larry Baer will not face charges following a physical altercation with his wife March 1 that led to him to take a leave of absence from the team.
Yankees: Guest instructor Lee Mazzilli,
63, was struck in the head by a batted ball and taken to a Tampa, Florida, hospital for overnight observation.
Reds: Charles “Chuck” Harmon, Cincinnati’s first African-american player in 1954, died Tuesday of unspecified causes. He was 94.
Astros: Reliever Ryan Pressly, 30, agreed to a three-year, $20.4 million contract.
