Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run Friday

A Las Vegas man was arrested Friday in connection with a hit-and-run in the northwestern Las Vegas Valley that left a 65-year-old pedestrian dead.

Brian W. Alton, 26, faces one count of failure to stop at the scene of a crash. He was being held Friday without bail at the Clark County Detention Center, jail records show.

Shortly before 5 a.m., a man was crossing North El Capitan Way at Horse Drive inside a marked crosswalk when Alton struck him with a 2009 Ford F-150, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The man, who police said was a Las Vegas resident, died at the scene.

Police said Alton drove off but was found a short time later in a nearby neighborhood. Investigators suspect Alton was impaired, Metro said.
