Catcher d’arnaud, released by Mets on Friday, joins Dodgers

-

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed catcher Travis d’arnaud to a one-year contract. The

New York Mets had designated d’arnaud for assignment on April 28 and released him Friday.

D’arnaud, 30, missed most of last season because of an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. He went 2-for-23 for the Mets this season.

Signed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal this past offseason, d’arnaud had played his entire seven-year major league career with the Mets, batting .242 with 47 home runs in 407 games. He batted .336 with 24 home runs and 83 RBIS in 110 games with the 51s.

With the Dodgers, d’arnaud will serve as the No. 3 catcher and a right-handed bat off the bench and can be used at other positions, manager Dave Roberts said.

Brewers: Center fielder Lorenzo Cain left Milwaukee’s win over the Mets after being hit on the left hand by a pitch. X-rays were negative, but manager Craig Counsell said he plans to give Cain a day off Monday.

Mets: Left-hander Steven Matz was unable to throw a bullpen session Sunday because of a forearm nerve issue and was sent back to

New York to have it examined, manager Mickey Callaway said.

Orioles: Baltimore’s game against Tampa Bay at Camden Yards was postponed because of rain and rescheduled for July 13 as part of a split doubleheader.

Yankees: Outfielder Clint Frazier (left ankle sprain), out since April 23, will be activated Monday, manager Aaron Boone said.

Nationals: First baseman Matt Adams

(left shoulder strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list.
