Parra keys Lights’ second-half surge in victory over Republic
Irvin Parra had a goal and two assists to lead Lights FC past Sacramento Republic FC 4-2 in a United Soccer League match Saturday at Cashman Field.
After a scoreless first half in which Las Vegas (3-4-2) didn’t get either of its two shots on goal, Hayden Partian put Sacramento (3-3-2) ahead in the 51st minute, ending goalkeeper Thomas Olsen’s home shutout streak at 368 minutes.
The Lights responded with three goals in an eight-minute stretch, starting with Parra’s team-leading fifth in the 67th minute.
Santiago Echavarria, making his professional debut, scored in the 75th minute for Las Vegas, which improved to 3-0-1 at home.
Each team attempted 16 shots, with the Lights holding a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
Hockey: At Des Moines, Iowa, Luke Kunin scored his sixth postseason goal to back Andrew Hammond, who had 26 saves, leading the Iowa Wild past the Chicago Wolves 2-0 in Game 3 of the Calder Cup Central Division finals. The Wolves, the top minor league affiliate of the Golden Knights, lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.
College football: Wide receiver Mclane Mannix will be able to play in 2019 for Texas Tech after an NCAA waiver made the UNR transfer immediately eligible. The Midland, Texas, native had 107 catches for 1,653 yards and 13 touchdowns the past two seasons for the Wolf Pack.
Tennis: At Munich, 47th-ranked Cristian Garin defeated 37th-ranked Matteo Berrettini of Italy 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (1) to win the Munich
Open, less than a month after the 22-year-old Chilean claimed his first ATP title in Houston.
