Chiefs lock up All-pro tackle Schwartz with $11.255M deal

Kansas City signed All-pro offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz to a one-year, $11.255 million extension through 2021 that makes him the NFL’S second-highest paid right tackle.

Pro Football Focus graded Schwartz as the league’s No. 4 offensive tackle in 2018.

The 30-year-old hasn’t missed a start in 112 regular-season games and passed 7,000 consecutiv­e snaps in November.

Titans: Running back Eddie George (No. 27) and late quarterbac­k Steve Mcnair (No. 9) will be the franchise’s seventh and eighth players to have their jersey numbers retired, in a Sept. 15 ceremony before Tennessee’s home opener, controllin­g owner Amy Adams Strunk said.

Vikings: Tight end Steve Jordan will be the 25th member of Minnesota’s Ring of Honor this season. Jordan, 58, who spent all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Vikings, went to six straight Pro Bowls and ranks third in receptions in franchise history.

Bears: Kicker Chris Blewitt, the University of Pittsburgh’s career scoring leader, was waived, leaving Chicago with two other kickers who haven’t played in the NFL — Elliott Fry and Eddy Pineiro — as potential replacemen­ts for the departed Cody Parkey.

Jets: Cornerback Montrel Meander, waived Tuesday by Oakland, was claimed in general manager Joe Douglas’ first acquisitio­n with New York. Meander, 24, spent 12 weeks on Cleveland’s practice squad in 2018.

Patriots: New England filed tampering charges against Houston for the attempted general manager hire of Nick Caserio, the Patriots’ director of player personnel since 2008, ESPN reported.

Packers: Green Bay will wear No. 15 helmet decals this season to honor Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbac­k Bart Starr, who died May 26 at 85. will be the 28th Canadian-born player to play for Toronto and the 13th to make his major league debut with the Jays.

Indians: Right-hander Mike Clevinger (muscle strain in upper back), out since April 7, will start Monday at Texas, manager Terry Francona said. Clevinger pitched five shutout innings Tuesday in a rehabilita­tion start for Double-a Akron.

Padres: Rookie right-hander Chris Paddack, who has a 3.15 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP through 12 starts, was optioned to Class-a Lake Elsinore, reportedly to curb the 23-yearold’s workload.

Athletics: Catcher Chris Herrmann (right knee surgery), who has yet to play this season, will start a rehabilita­tion assignment Thursday with the Aviators.

Cubs: MLB confirmed a two-game series in London between Chicago and St. Louis at West Ham’s Olympic Stadium on June 13 and 14, 2020.
