Injured Cleveland ace Kluber cleared for strength exercises

Cleveland ace Corey Kluber was cleared to work on strength building after having his broken pitching arm evaluated.

The 33-year-old right-hander was 2-3 with a 5.80 ERA in seven starts this season before a line drive broke his right forearm May 1. Manager Terry Francona said the two-time Cy Young Award winner will be reevaluate­d in two weeks.

Yankees: Aaron Judge (left oblique strain) joined fellow outfielder Giancarlo Stanton on a rehabilita­tion assignment with Triple-a Scranton/wilkes-barre. Judge went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Railriders’ 16-3 loss at Durham; Stanton went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two strikeouts.

Rangers: Bishop Gorman product Joey Gallo (left oblique strain), sidelined since June 2, said he expects to be activated next weekend. Also, Texas acquired right-handed reliever Jake Petricka from Milwaukee for a player to be named or cash.

Red Sox: Right-handed reliever Heath Hembree (right elbow strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 30-year-old has a 2.51 ERA in 31 appearance­s, including nine straight scoreless outings.

Rockies: Cimarron-memorial and College of Southern Nevada product Mike Dunn (inflamed left AC joint), a left-handed reliever who had been sidelined since June 3, was activated from the IL.

Phillies: Utility player Brad Miller was acquired from the New York Yankees for cash. The 29-year-old seven-year major league veteran was hitting .294 for Triple-a Scranton/ Wilkes-barre.

Blue Jays: Third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. exited Toronto’s loss at Houston after a 96-mph pitch from Gerrit Cole hit his left hand. X-rays were negative.

Athletics: Outfielder Stephen Piscotty had surgery to remove a melanoma from his right ear and is not expected to require an IL stint.
