The Miami Hurricanes named Jarren Williams as their starting quarterback.

The redshirt freshman beat out former Bishop Gorman standout and Ohio State transfer Tate Martell and incumbent starter N’kosi Perry.

Williams appeared in one game for Miami last season, completing one pass and rushing for a short touchdown.

Perry and Martell are still competing for the backup job, coach Manny Diaz said.
