Bradley lifts Red Sox; Sale passes 2,000 K’s

CLEVELAND — Jackie Bradley

Jr. homered with one out in the 10th inning, and Boston edged Cleveland 7-6 on Tuesday after blowing a late lead for ace Chris Sale, who recorded a strikeout milestone.

Boston’s Rafael Devers became the first player in major league history with six hits and four doubles, and the Red Sox won for just the fourth time in 16 games.

It was anything but easy, as

Boston blew a 6-1 lead over the final four innings, costing Sale his seventh win on a night when he also made history by getting to 2,000 career strikeouts faster than any other pitcher.

Sale came in needing five strikeouts to reach 2,000 and struck out 12. According to informatio­n provided by the Red

Sox, Sale bettered Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez’s mark by getting to 2,000 K’s in 1,626 innings. Martinez reached it in 1,711⅓ innings.

Twins 7, Brewers 5 — At Milwaukee, Christian Yelich returned to the starting lineup and sparked a late rally, but it wasn’t enough for the Brewers, as Marwin Gonzalez hit a three-run home run off to propel Minnesota to a come-from-behind win.

Yankees 8, Orioles 3 — At

New York, Domingo German (16-2) pitched seven strong innings to become the first 16-game winner in the majors, and the Yankees ran their winning streak over Baltimore to 15 games.

Braves 5, Mets 3 — At Atlanta, Ronald Acuna Jr. homered and threw out a runner at the plate to back

Max Fried’s fifth straight win for the Braves. New York second baseman Jeff Mcneil injured his hamstring in the ninth.

Nationals 3, Reds 1 — At Washington, Brian Dozier and Juan Soto homered, and Joe Ross (3-3) extended his scoreless streak to 17 1/3 innings for the Nationals.

Phillies 4, Cubs 2 — At Philadelph­ia, J.T. Realmuto homered and drove in the tiebreakin­g run with an RBI double in the seventh inning for the Phillies.

Dodgers 15, Marlins 1 — At Miami, rookie Will Smith had his first two-homer game, and Los Angeles twice hit back-to-back homers in a rout of the Marlins.

White Sox 2-4, Astros 6-1

At Chicago, Ivan Nova (8-9) tossed a four-hitter in a 4-1 victory to give the White Sox a split of the doublehead­er. In the first game, Zack Greinke (12-4) threw six solid innings in his second start for Houston in a 6-2 victory.

Mariners 11, Tigers 6 — Detroit, Kyle Seager and Tom

Murphy hit back-to-back home runs twice, and Seager added a third blast for Seattle.

Cardinals 2, Royals 0 — At Kansas City, Mo., Jack Flaherty (6-6) tossed seven innings of three-hit ball for St. Louis.

Giants 3, Athletics 2 —

Diamondbac­ks 9, Rockies 3 — At Denver, Jarrod Dyson homered on the second pitch of the game during a five-run first inning for Arizona.

Blue Jays 3, Rangers 0 — At Toronto, Teoscar Hernandez and Billy Mckinney hit back-to-back home runs, and five pitchers combined on a five-hitter for the Blue Jays.

Rays 7, Padres 5 — At San Diego, Ji-man Choi hit a tiebreakin­g two-run home run in the seventh, and Tampa Bay rallied past the Padres.

Pirates 10, Angels 7 — At Anaheim, Calif., Josh Bell had a home run and three RBIS, and Pittsburgh beat Los Angeles.
