Hawaii receiver catches four TDS in wild win over Arizona
Wide receiver Cedric Byrd caught two touchdown passes in each half to help Hawaii hold off Arizona 45-38 in both teams’ season opener Saturday in Honolulu.
Byrd totaled 14 receptions for 224 yards, with the TDS from 7, 25, 35 and 30 yards. The Rainbow Warriors (1-0) never trailed, saw three 14-point leads erased and overcame six turnovers.
Khalil Tate passed for 361 yards and three
TDS and ran for 108 yards on 13 rushes for the Wildcats (0-1), who had won six straight over Hawaii. Tate was tackled on the Hawaii 1-yard line by safety Kalen Hicks, a Bishop Gorman product, and defensive lineman Manly Williams on the final play.
Tennessee: Sophomore cornerback Bryce Thompson was arrested on a domestic assault charge stemming from an argument with his four-year girlfriend Saturday. Thompson started 10 games in 2018 and totaled team highs of three interceptions and seven pass breakups.
Wisconsin: Junior Jack Coan with start at quarterback for the 19th-ranked Badgers in their season opener Friday, coach Paul
Chryst said. Coan threw for 515 yards and five touchdowns in five games, including four starts, in 2018.
Washington: Jake Haener became the second quarterback to leave the No. 13 Huskies in the past calendar year, announcing his plan after losing a camp battle for the starting job to Georgia transfer Jacob Eason.
East Carolina: Sophomore linebacker Delvontae Harris and freshman cornerback Juan Powell were suspended indefinitely after being charged with felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle Saturday.
UCLA: Sophomore linebacker Bo Calvert is out indefinitely because of an unspecified violation of NCAA rules. He played in five games last year and totaled nine tackles.
