IMPEACHMENT TODAY

-

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Testifying in a Wednesday evening hearing, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper said her staff received an email on July 25 — the very daythat President Donald Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy — from a Ukrainian embassy contact asking “what was going on with Ukraine’s security assistance.” She said she “cannot say for certain” that Ukraine was aware the aid was being withheld, but said “it’s the recollection of my staff that they likely knew.”

Later Wednesday, Democrats controlling the House Intelligence Committee killed five Republican attempts to issue subpoenas for impeachment inquiry witnesses and documents, including the intelligence community whistleblower and Hunter Biden.

Ambassador Gordon Sondland said Wednesday that a July 26 cellphone call he had with Trump mainly focused on rapper A$AP Rocky, who was imprisoned in Sweden earlier this year.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, meeting with NATO officials Wednesday in Brussels, dismissed Sondland’s testimony in the impeachment inquiry that he was kept informed of an effort to pressure the government of Ukraine for investigations.
