Indians’ Clevinger set for knee surgery, out six to eight weeks

Cleveland right-hander Mike Clevinger sustained a partial cartilage tear in his left knee during a Wednesday workout and will have surgery that is expected to sidelined him six to eight weeks.

The 29-year-old went 38-18 over the past three seasons and has a 3.20 ERA in four years with the Indians. He had a 2.71 ERA over 21 starts in 2019, with 169 strikeouts in 126 innings.

Also, Cleveland signed free-agent outfielder Domingo Santana to a $1.5 million deal, with a $5 million club option for 2021. The 27-yearold hit 21 home runs for Seattle last season and 30 for Milwaukee in 2017.

Red Sox: Free-agent center fielder Kevin Pillar agreed to a one-year, $4.25 million deal. The 30-year-old, a .261 hitter in seven major league seasons, last year led San Francisco in home runs (21), RBIS (87), hits (157) and onbase percentage (.339).

Brewers: Two-time All-star reliever Josh Hader lost his arbitratio­n case and will be paid $4.1 million rather than the $6.4 million he sought, dropping players to 1-6 in hearings this year. The 25-year-old left-hander made $687,600 in 2019.
