Murray runs, passes Arizona to 2-0 season start

-

GLENDALE, Ariz. — If

Kyler Murray doesn’t get you with his arm, he gets you with his legs.

The Arizona Cardinals’ second-year quarterback passed for 286 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores in dominating Washington 30-15 Sunday.

The Cardinals (2-0) jumped out to a 14-0 advantage and led 20-3 at halftime.

Deandre Hopkins caught eight passes for 68 yards, including a 4-yard TD, and Zane Gonzalez made field goals of 49, 33 and 28 yards.

Murray alleviated any doubt about who would win early in the fourth quarter, when he darted through the middle of the field — dancing past safety Troy Apke in the process — for a 21-yard TD and a 27-3 advantage.

Murray finished 26-for-38 passing, and his other TD run was for 14 yards.

“As soon as I leave the pocket I survey the field,” Murray said of his running plan on his second TD. “Seeing how the blocks were set up, they were set up pretty perfectly.

“Once I get a guy one on one, I like my chances.”

The Cardinals’ revamped defense held Washington (1-1) scoreless until Dustin Hopkins’ 24-yard field goal

late in the third quarter.

Dwayne Haskins was 19for-33 passing for 223 yards and a touchdown for Washington.

Bears 17, Giants 13

Mitchell Trubisky threw two touchdown passes as host Chicago (2-0) hung on against New York, which lost standout running back Saquon Barkley to a right knee injury on the first play of the second quarter. The Bears grabbed a 17-0 halftime lead, and

withstood a big push a week after rallying from a 17-point deficit against Detroit. Trubisky was 18-for-28 passing for 190 yards with two interceptions. He was sacked four times. He hit David Montgomery for a 28-yard TD on the game’s opening possession and added a 15-yarder to Darnell Mooney in the closing seconds of the first half. The Giants (0-2) got a 1-yard TD run from Dion Lewis in the opening minute of the fourth, and James Bradberry then intercepted Trubisky, leading to a 37-yard field goal by Graham Gano that cut it to 17-13 with

7:43 remaining. The Giants drove to the 10 in the final minute before receiver Golden Tate was penalized for pushing off against Eddie Jackson near the goal line on an incomplete pass as time expired.

Jones scored on a 75-yard burst to start the second half, a touchdown that gave the Packers (2-0) at 24-14 lead. Jones ran 18 times; his other scoring run was from 14 yards, and his TD catch was for 7 yards. For Detroit (0-2), Matthew Stafford was 20-for-33 passing for 244 yards and a pair of TDS. But he was picked off by Chandon Sullivan for a 7-yard pick-six that gave Green Bay a 31-14 lead early in the third.

Jared Goff passed to Tyler Higbee for three touchdowns as Los Angeles jumped out to a 21-3 lead in Philadelphia. Goff completed his first 13 passes, including two TDS to Higbee, before intermission. After the Eagles (0-2) pulled to 24-10, Goff ’s 28-yard TD pass to Higbee in the fourth iced it for Los Angeles (2-0). Goff ’s other scoring tosses to Higbee were for 4 and 3 yards. Goff and Philly QB Carson Wentz were selected Nos. 1-2 in the 2016 draft, one of seven times since 1967 that quarterbacks were the first two picks. In their only other head-to-head meeting in Los Angeles in December 2017, Wentz tore two knee ligaments. Nick Foles stepped in and eventually led Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl title. Goff finished 20 of 27 for 242 yards. Wentz was 26 of 43 for 242 yards and two interceptions.
