Lions’ Swift dealing with concussion; status vague

-

Detroit rookie running back D’ANdre Swift didn’t practice Thursday because of a concussion, leaving his status for Sunday in doubt considering the NFL’S concussion protocol rules.

It’s not clear when Swift sustained the concussion. He was not listed on the team’s injury report Wednesday, and he spoke with the media for almost five minutes after practice Wednesday.

Swift is coming off his first start in Week 10, when he rushed for 81 yards on 16 carries and caught five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Swift has rushed for 331 yards at an average of 4.7 per carry and four TDS while catching 31 passes for 275 yards and two TDS this season.

The Lions had been working Swift in more and more over the past four games toward taking the team’s primary backfield spot from veteran Adrian Peterson, who was signed before Week 1, and Kerryon Johnson, who had been the starter the past two seasons.

Wide receiver Kenny Golladay (hip) sat out practice after returning Wednesday for the first time since Week 8. Quarterback Matthew Stafford (throwing thumb), tight end T.J. Hockenson (toe) and wide receiver Marvin Jones (knee) were limited.

■ Chiefs: Running backs Clyde Edwards-helaire and Darrel Williams were held out of practice because of illnesses. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins (hamstring, calf ) was downgraded from “full” to “limited” at practice. Offensive tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz were activated from the reserve/ COVID-19 list.

■ Dolphins: Former safety Jake Scott, the MVP of the Super Bowl that capped Miami’s unbeaten 1972 season, died Thursday in Atlanta after a fall down a stairway that left him in a coma. He was 75. Scott made the Pro Bowl five times in six seasons with the Dolphins, never missing a game.

■ Browns: Defensive end Myles Garrett remained isolated from his teammates for a second straight day because of an illness, but coach Kevin Stefanski said he expects the 24-year-old to return Friday and play Sunday. Garrett has an Nfl-high 9½ sacks this season.

■ Eagles: Running back Corey Clement, wide receiver J.J. Arcega-whiteside and defensive end Vinny Curry were placed on the reserve/covid-19 list. Also, running back Jordan Howard — released Monday by Miami — signed to the practice squad.

Broncos: Defensive coordinator Ed Donatell is recovering at home after spending nearly a week in a hospital battling COVID-19. The 63-year-old missed the team’s past three games.

Seahawks: The team’s home stadium was renamed Lumen Field. It previously was named Centurylink Field, but the company rebranded as Lumen Technologies earlier this year.

■ Packers: Wide receiver Davante Adams (ankle) did not practice after being limited Wednesday, and cornerback Jaire Alexander (concussion) practiced in full.

■ Saints: Running back Alvin Kamara (foot) missed practice but said “I’m feeling good; I’ll be alright,” regarding his status for Sunday.

■ 49ers: Linebacker Joe Walker and center Hroniss Grasu were placed on the reserve/covid-19 list.

■ Panthers: Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was limited for a second straight practice.
