Warriors’ Thompson out for year with Achilles tear

An MRI examinatio­n revealed Golden State guard Klay Thompson sustained a season-ending right Achilles tendon tear Wednesday in a workout with several NBA players in Los Angeles. Agent Greg Lawrence said the 30-year-old five-time All-star is expected to recover for the start of 2021-22. Thompson missed all of 2019-20 after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in the 2019 NBA Finals.

■ Celtics: Forward Gordon Hayward opted out of his $34.5 million deal for 202021, making the 30-year-old an unrestrict­ed free agent. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 2019-20.

■ Thunder: Forward Kelly Oubre Jr., a Findlay Prep product acquired last week from Phoenix, will be traded to Golden State, ESPN reported. The 24-year-old averaged 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 2019-20.

■ Suns: Center Frank Kaminsky’s

$5.2 million team option was declined, making the 27-year-old an unrestrict­ed free agent. He averaged 9.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 2019-20.

■ Knicks: Guards Elfrid Payton and Wayne Ellington and center Taj Gibson were waived, and forward Bobby Portis’ team option was declined, clearing $41.3 million in 2020-21 salary.

■ Mavericks: Guard Tim Hardaway

Jr. is exercising his $18.9 million player option. The 28-year-old averaged

15.8 points and shot 39.8 percent on 3-pointers in 2019-20.

■ Rockets: Guard Austin Rivers opted out of his contract to be an unrestrict­ed free agent. The 28-year-old averaged 8.8 points in 23.4 minutes in 2019-20.

■ Hawks: The team agreed to trade center Dewayne Dedmon to Detroit for guards Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas.
