Pac-12 agrees to allow nonconference games

-

The Pac-12 loosened its scheduling restrictions for this season and will allow nonconference games if they meet a certain criteria. Opponents must meet the league’s COVID-19 testing and related safety protocols, and Pac-12 teams must be the hosts. Also, if a Pac12 team schedules a nonconference game early in a week and a Pac-12 opponent becomes available by Thursday, the Pac-12 will require a matchup between conference teams.

■ Tulsa: At Tulsa, Okla., linebacker Zaven Collins returned an interception 96 yards for a TD in the second overtime to lift the No. 25 Golden Hurricane past Tulane 30-24. Tulsa (5-1, 5-0 American Athletic) tied it on Juancarlos Santana’s 37-yard TD catch as time expired in the fourth quarter. The Green Wave (5-5, 2-5) led 14-0 after a scoreless first half.

■ Maryland: The team’s game Saturday against Michigan State was canceled because of COVID-19 issues with the Terrapins, marking their second straight cancellation. Coach Mike Locksley tested positive for the virus Wednesday and is isolating at home.

■ Ohio State: Quarterback Quinn Ewers, the 2022 class’ top prospect, committed to the Buckeyes. The Southlake, Texas, product decommitted from Texas on Oct. 28 and had offers from nearly every program in the nation.

■ Notre Dame: Former coach Lou Holtz said he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and that he doesn’t “have a lot of energy right now.” The 83-year-old went 110-30-2 with the Fighting Irish from 1986 to 1996.

■ Georgia: Linebacker Smael Mondon, the state’s top-rated 2021 prospect ranked No. 11 overall by ESPN, committed to the Bulldogs over Auburn, Florida, Louisiana State and Tennessee.

■ Fresno State: The team’s game Saturday against San Jose State was canceled because of COVID-19 issues among the Bulldogs.
