Upon further review, Pitt won’t require in-game face coverings
After receiving clarity from the state on new COVID-19 safety guidelines, Pittsburgh said players would be outfitted with face coverings but not required to wear them on the field Saturday. The new guidance from the office of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf states football players wearing masks during games “would likely create a medical issue,” making them exempt.
■ Air Force: At Colorado Springs, Colo., Brad Roberts ran for 177 yards and three TDS to help the Falcons top New Mexico 28-0 and give coach Troy Calhoun his 100th win. Air Force (2-2, 1-2 Mountain West) lost three third-quarter fumbles in its territory, two forced by linebacker Nico Bolden, leading to three missed field goals by the Lobos (0-4, 0-4).
■ Minnesota: At Minneapolis, linebacker Josh Aune’s interception with 44 seconds left at the Gophers’ 13 after a disputed penalty on Purdue preserved Minnesota’s 34-31 win. Mohamed Ibrahim ran for 102 yards and three TDS for the Gophers (2-3, 2-3 Big Ten). Jack Plummer threw for 367 yards and three TDS for the Boilermakers (2-2, 2-2).
■ Louisville: At Louisville, Ky., Malik Cunningham threw for a TD and ran for another to offset his three first-half turnovers as the Cardinals beat Syracuse 30-0. Louisville (3-6, 2-6 Atlantic Coast) held the Orange (1-8, 1-7) to 137 yards of offense.
■ Washington State: The team’s game Saturday at Stanford was canceled because of COVID-19 issues among the Cougars. Starting quarterback Jayden de Laura was among the players testing positive.
■ Tennessee: Athletic director Phillip Fulmer is in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19. The 70-year-old Hall of Fame coach was deemed to have had no recent close contact with athletes.
■ Miami: Coach Manny Diaz, 46, tested positive for COVID-19 and said he will work virtually. The Hurricanes are not scheduled to play again until Dec. 5.
■ Cincinnati: The seventh-ranked Bearcats’ game against No. 25 Tulsa, originally set for Oct. 17, was rescheduled for a second time, to Dec. 12.
