LILIAS MARGARET GORDON Lilias Margaret Smith Gordon passed away peacefully at home in Las Vegas on December 16, 2020. She was born on September 10, 1938, in Utica, Michigan, to Canadian parents. After moving to California and studying at Humboldt State University, Lilias finally settled in Las Vegas in 1963 and earned her masters of library science degree from UNLV. Lilias initially taught English at Bishop Gorman High School and then served for 20 years as the Gorman Librarian. Many Gaels will remember Lilias as the stern but helpful steward of the books – and the drill team coach. Lilias loved to travel and to take in travelers including foreign exchange students, minstrels, and mild provocateurs. She was politically active and a member of Peace Links. Lilias was preceded in death by her mother Lillian Magahay and her sisters Lorraine S. Atkins and Diane S. Cowan. Lilias is survived by her son Jeff Gordon of Las Vegas and his daughter Catherine; Andy Gordon of Las Vegas and his wife Sue and children Daniel, Matthew, and Allison; and Scott Gordon of Albuquerque and his wife Nancy and daughters Adelaide and Lilias. A memorial gathering will be held when conditions permit, hopefully near her birthday in September. In the meantime, in lieu of flowers, readers are encouraged to donate in Lilias’ name to the charity of their choice. Lilias’ ashes will be scattered in Zion NP, the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, and Rothesay, Scotland. No services scheduled.
