Pitts, standout tight end for Florida, to skip Cotton Bowl
Kyle Pitts, Florida’s best player and the nation’s top collegiate tight end, will skip the No. 10 Gators’ Cotton Bowl game against
No. 8 Oklahoma to prepare for the NFL draft. The 6-foot-6-inch junior from Philadelphia had seven catches for 129 yards and a TD on Saturday and totaled 43 catches for 770 yards and 12 TDS in eight games this season.
■ Arizona State: At Corvallis, Ore., Jayden Daniels passed for a TD and had two of the Sun Devils’ six rushing TDS, including a 53-yarder, in their 46-33 win over Oregon State on Saturday. Rachaad White ran for
158 yards for Arizona State (2-2, 2-2 Pac-12), which totaled 514 yards of offense. Jermar Jefferson ran for 103 yards for the Beavers (2-5, 2-5).
■ Alabama: Center Landon Dickerson will not play in the College Football Playoff after sustaining a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the Crimson Tide’s win Saturday, coach
Nick Saban said. The 6-foot-6-inch, 325-pound senior had started every game the past two seasons after transferring from Florida State.
■ Wisconsin: Quarterback Jack Coan entered the NCAA transfer portal after an injury-riddled season in which he didn’t play. He went 12-6 over 18 starts in 2018 and
2019, including 8-3 in Big Ten play, completing 68 percent of his passes with 23 TDS and eight interceptions.
■ Postseason: The Guaranteed Rate Bowl, slated for Saturday in Phoenix, won’t take place this season because of what organizers cited as “unprecedented ramifications from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
■ Pittsburgh: Senior quarterback Kenny Pickett said he plans to return in 2021. He has thrown for 7,984 yards with 39 TDS and 25 interceptions since taking over as the starter in late 2017.
■ Big Ten: Minnesota (3-3), Penn State (45), Nebraska (3-5) and Michigan State (2-5) said they will not accept bowl invitations.
