Fourth-ranked Michigan State falls to Wildcats

EVANSTON, Ill. — Boo Buie scored 30 points as Northweste­rn beat Michigan State for the first time in almost a decade, topping the No. 4 Spartans 79-65 on Sunday.

Pete Nance had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) in their first win over a top-five team since downing Magic Johnson and then-no. 4 Michigan State in 1979.

The Spartans (6-1, 0-1), who shot 39 percent, had won 12 straight over Northweste­rn dating to 2012. ■ No. 6 Houston 88, Alcorn State 55: At Houston, Quentin Grimes had 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars (5-0), who had just nine players because of COVID-19 issues and injuries. The Braves (0-2) were outrebound­ed 48-29.

■ No. 9 Creighton 76,

Connecticu­t 74, OT: At Storrs, Conn., Christian Bishop scored 19 points for the Bluejays (6-2, 2-1 Big East), who opened overtime with a 9-0 run. James Bouknight scored 40 points for the Huskies (3-1, 0-1) in their first game in 17 days.

■ No. 11 Texas 77, Oklahoma State 74: At Austin, Texas, freshman Greg Brown had 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Longhorns (7-1, 1-0 Big 12). Freshman Cade Cunningham scored 25 points for the Cowboys (6-2, 0-2), who once trailed by 13.

■ No. 19 Rutgers 91, No. 13 Illinois 88: At Piscataway,

N.J., Ron Harper Jr. scored 28 points and Jacob Young 24 for the Scarlet Knights (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten), who overcame an 11-point first-half deficit. Ayo Dosunmu had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Illini (5-3, 1-1).

At Reno, A.J. Walker scored 27 points for the Falcons (3-3, 1-1), who trailed 33-24 at halftime. Zane Meeks had 18 points for the Wolf Pack (6-3, 1-1).

WOMEN ■ No. 4 North Carolina State 78, Miami 47: At

Raleigh, N.C., Elissa Cunane scored 13 of her 18 points in the first quarter for the Wolfpack (8-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast), who led 31-11 after 10 minutes. The Hurricanes (4-2, 1-2) shot 20.7 percent.

■ No. 6 Arizona 77, Utah 60: At Salt Lake City, Aari Mcdonald had 19 points for the Wildcats (6-0, 5-0 Pac12), who scored 29 points off 22 turnovers. The Utes (2-4, 1-4) shot 38 percent.

■ No. 10 Texas A&M 57, Rice 53: At College Station, Texas, Aaliyah Wilson scored 16 points for the Aggies

(8-0). Jasmine Smith scored 18 points for the Owls (4-1), who led 28-24 at halftime.
