Football team makes four changes to coaching staff

-

UNLV hired Jonathan Krause, a graduate assistant at Oregon the past three seasons, as its wide receivers coach. He replaces Terrence Samuel, who left in January to coach receivers at Syracuse.

Rebels coach Marcus Arroyo made three other staff changes.

Nate Longshore moves from offensive analyst to tight ends coach, running backs coach Scott Baumgartner also will handle special teams, and Ian Shields switches from defensive analyst to offensive analyst. Jordan Paopao, who coached tight ends and special teams, became Arizona’s tight ends coach in January.

■ Men’s swimming: Ben Loorz was named Western Athletic Conference coach of the year, and George Ratiu was named WAC freshman of the year after the Rebels won their first league title in six years and set a record for most points scored at the league meet. Ratiu had three top-five individual finishes and was part of a winning relay.

■ Volleyball: Outside hitters Mariena Hayden and Shelby Capllonch were named Mountain West offensive and defensive players of the week after helping the Rebels (6-0) to two wins over previously unbeaten Boise State last week. Hayden, a senior, had a career-high 27 kills in the first match and in the second had the fourth triple-double in program history with 16 kills, 13 digs and 10 aces. Capllonch, a sophomore, took league defensive honors for a second straight week.

■ Men’s tennis: Sophomore Milos Dabic was named Mountain West player of the week after winning in singles and doubles for the Rebels (3-6) in their 5-2 loss to No. 17 Pepperdine on Friday.
