Braves-nats game Monday on hold over COVID issues

-

Monday’s scheduled series opener between Atlanta and Washington was postponed as the Nationals continue to deal with a COVID-19 outbreak that wiped out their season-opening series against the New York Mets. Four Washington players tested positive for the virus over the past week, and seven are under quarantine via contact tracing. The hope is the Nats will play the Braves on Tuesday, if the outbreak is contained.

■ Pirates: Rookie third baseman Ke’bryan Hayes (left wrist strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 24-year-old son of former 14-year major league third baseman Charlie Hayes made his major league debut in September. He batted .376 with five homers and 11 RBIS in 24 games in

2020 and homered on opening day. Manager Derek Shelton said X-rays were negative, but an MRI showed inflammation.

■ Tigers: Outfielder Akil Baddoo homered on the first pitch he saw in the majors, off Cleveland right-hander Aaron Civale in the third inning of Detroit’s 9-3 home loss. The 22-year-old, a Rule 5 draft pick from Minnesota, hadn’t played above the Class-a level.

■ Brewers: Assistant trainer Dave Yeager was hospitalized overnight after collapsing Saturday while treating umpire C.B. Bucknor in the ninth inning of Milwaukee’s loss to Minnesota. Manager Craig Counsell said Yeager was dehydrated.

■ Dodgers: Right-hander Tony Gonsolin (inflamed right shoulder) was placed on the 10-day IL. The 26-yearold, who made his first opening-day roster, had a 2.31 ERA in eight 2020 starts.

■ Twins: Third baseman Josh Donaldson (right hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day IL. The 35-year-old three-time All-star was limited to 28 games in 2020 because of calf issues.

■ Indians: Fans wearing Native American headdresses and/or face paint will not be permitted inside Progressive Field, the team said.
