Lightning upend Panthers in OT

TAMPA, Fla. — Victor Hedman scored 54 seconds into overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday.

The Lightning remained tied for first place in the Central Division with Carolina, though the Hurricanes have a game in hand. Florida is one point back.

Andrei Vasilevski­y had 36 saves for his Nhl-leading 26th victory of the season and added an assist. Alex Killorn had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, which also got a goal from Ross Colton.

Patric Hornqvist and Anthony Duclair scored for Florida, which has one win in its past four games. Chris Driedger stopped 15 shots for the Panthers.

Hedman got his eight goal of the season, sent in on a breakaway by Killorn. Hedman deked Driedger down and slipped the puck inside the post.

■ Sabres 5, Capitals 2: At Washington, Anders Bjork scored his first goal since Buffalo acquired him Monday and added an assist, and fourth-string goaltender Dustin Tokarski had 27 saves in his first NHL win since Dec. 12, 2015, with Montreal.

■ Bruins 4, Islanders 1: At Boston, Brad Marchand scored twice, Taylor Hall scored his first goal since Boston acquired him Monday, and Tuukka Rask had 22 saves in his first win since February. The Bruins had a 45-23 edge in shots.

■ Jets 5, Maple Leafs 2: At Toronto, Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor each scored twice to back Connor Helleybuck, who had 31 saves, as Winnipeg moved within three points of Toronto atop the North.

■ Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 1: At Detroit, Troy Stecher had two goals, and Jakub Vrana scored the go-ahead goal on a breakaway in his Detroit debut to back Thomas Greiss, who had 24 saves.

■ Flyers 2, Penguins 1, SO: At Pittsburgh, Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier scored on Philadelph­ia’s first two shootout tries, and Carter Hart had 31 saves in his first win in eight starts.

■ Stars 4, Blue Jackets 1: At Dallas, Denis Gurianov had his first two-goal game of the season to back Jake Oettinger, who allowed a goal on the first shot he faced and then stopped the final 17.

■ Rangers 4, Devils 0: At New York, Artemi Panarin had two goals and an assist, and Igor Shesterkin stopped 16 shots in his second shutout in three days.

■ Hurricanes 4, Predators 1: At Raleigh, N.C., Warren Foegele and Vincent Trocheck scored off Nashville turnovers to back Petr Mrazek, who stopped 19 shots.
