ANDY ANDERSON

-

"Andy" Myrwin Herbert Anderson passed away on March 30, 2021 at 86 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 21, 1934, Andy lived the American Dream. Although he came from modest means, he achieved much both personally and professionally. In 1956, Andy met and married Dawn Rae Stout, whom he adored and loved deeply. With Dawn, he had three children, Darla, David, and Diane. Andy and Dawn also adopted their two grandsons, Dylan and Dallas, upon the death of their youngest daughter, Diane. Andy taught his children to love sports (particularly the Chicago Cubs), play sports (primarily baseball and golf), appreciate movies (especially John Wayne and westerns), enjoy music (folk songs, early rock and roll, and musicals), read books (Lee Child’s Jack Reacher and John Sanford’s Virgil Flowers), and even tolerate Dad jokes (“I’m taking a shower,” “Where are you going to take it?”). He also taught his children that beliefs can change regardless of your age. He voted for Biden and Obama despite years earlier having voted for Nixon and Goldwater. Andy evolved into a feminist (with his daughters’ help, of course) and supported LGBTQ rights. He proudly wore the EDC and contemporary band tee-shirts Dallas bought him. His love for, and loyalty to, his family was transcending. Professionally, Andy was first and foremost a pilot. He served in the Air Force as a pilot and retired as a Major. He also worked for United Airlines as a commercial pilot until his retirement in 2000. Andy completed his B.A. in Business from University of Nebraska, Omaha in 1966 and worked for a short time in business and real estate. In 1974, with the possibility of layoffs at the airlines looming because of the oil crises, Andy and Dawn bought Lyons Hardware in Henderson, Nevada, and settled permanently in Henderson. In 2010, Andy suffered his greatest loss with the death of his wife, Dawn. True to the adage that men who have had a good marriage remarry,

Andy reconnected with a former girlfriend from his youth. In September 2011, Andy married Donna Sue Barrett. They also settled in Henderson. Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Rae Anderson, and youngest daughter, Diane Jane Anderson. He is survived by his second wife, Donna Sue Anderson, his children, Darla R. Anderson (spouse Richard Kallan), David M. Anderson (wife Libbi Bosworth), Dylan S. Cooper, and Dallas E. Cooper (wife Wendy Cooper), and his grandchildren, Dakota Cooper and Dallas Cooper.
