GOP politicians showing no spine

-

It was refreshing to read the May 14 letter “GOP has lost its grip on reality.” The writer is a clear-minded Republican communicating an opinion that should be admitted to by the majority of the party.

Unfortunately, subservience to and fear of Donald Trump continues to supplant the character and integrity of GOP leadership. Save for a handful of Republican senators and members of the House of Representatives, the overwhelming majority of elected Republicans resemble baaing, whimpering sheep to their ex-liar-in-chief leader.

There Trump sits in his garish Mar-a-lago resort, priming for unhinged rally tours to do exactly what Rep. Liz Cheney, R-wyo., warns of — lying to his scornful base while pressing for a second term to the office he so capably disgraced as a twice-impeached insurrectionist.

Republican voters and politicians, as the May 14 letter so aptly articulates, better wise up to wise guy Trump.

Let us be clear: Trump dementedly desires to return to the presidency to finish his totalitarian ego quest. This time around, he could fully vanquish our republic, and only the Republican Party can keep him from doing just that.

Cheney is fighting for the survival of the legitimate soul of the party. She actively battles against Trump and will continue to do so. Regrettably, GOP leaders steadfastly declare how they need Trump to regain the House and Senate in 2022. Once they have that, they say the genuine 2024 candidate will appear. Really? Keep riding the enraged Trump tiger and see what happens.
