Dallas’ Lawrence fractures foot, sidelined indefinite­ly

Dallas defensive end Demarcus Lawrence sustained a broken foot in practice and is sidelined indefinite­ly, with NFL Network estimating a six- to eight-week absence. A 29-year-old two-time Pro Bowl selection, Lawrence averaged nine sacks over the past four seasons. He had two pressures, two quarterbac­k hits, four tackles against the run and a forced fumble in Week 1.

■ Giants: Running back Saquon Barkley is listed as questionab­le for Thursday as the 24-year-old tries to play for a second time in five days while returning from a torn right ACL sustained in Week 2 of 2020. Barkley played 48 percent of the team’s Week 1 offensive snaps, running for 26 yards on 10 carries.

■ Jaguars: Coach Urban Meyer said “there’s no chance” he takes Southern California’s open coaching job, noting he is “committed to try to build an organizati­on” with Jacksonvil­le. The 57-year-old built winners at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State, with three national titles.

■ Television: The league’s kickoff weekend had the second-highest Week 1 ratings over the past five seasons. The 16 games averaged 17.4 million viewers, a 7 percent increase over last season and nearly equal to 2019, which averaged 17.6 million and remains the highest since 2017.

■ Browns: Three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who sustained a torn left ACL in October, won’t make his season debut Sunday, coach Kevin Stefanski said.

■ Jets: Wide receivers Jamison Crowder (COVID-19) and Keelan Cole (knee) are expected to make their season debuts Sunday, coach Robert Saleh said.

■ 49ers: Running back Trenton Cannon was claimed off waivers from Baltimore. The 27-year-old had two carries for 5 yards Monday against the Raiders.
