Newcomer Bulus wins title at Easley tennis tournament

Christophe­r Bulus capped his first tennis tournament with UNLV by winning the annual Easley Memorial Classic’s flight one singles title at Fertitta Tennis Complex. The senior from Lagos, Nigeria, did not lose a set in four matches and beat Gonzaga sophomore Sasha Trkulja 6-3, 6-4 in the final. Bulus finished last season ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II with Western Alabama after being a two-time junior college All-american at New Mexico Military Institute.

■ Women’s soccer: At Los Angeles, Marcella Brooks scored the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute to lead the Rebels past Loyola Marymount 2-1 for their third straight win. Brooks’ third goal of the season came 26 seconds after the Lions (0-10) had tied it on a goal by Rene Wasi. Lourdes Bosch scored in the 49th minute for UNLV (72), which had edges of 16-8 in shots and 7-5 in shots on goal.
