Herta wins in Monterey; Palou pads Indycar lead

Colton Herta won the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey, California, from the pole for his fifth Indycar victory and second this season. Alex Palou placed second to widen his lead atop the series standings from 25 points to 35 over

Pato O’ward ahead of next week’s finale. O’ward placed fifth.

NHRA: At Concord, N.C., Tim Wilkerson notched his 22nd Funny Car victory and second in three weeks in the Dewalt Carolina Nationals. Josh Hart won in Top Fuel, Kyle Koretsky in Pro Stock and Angelle Sampey in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Points leaders Brittany Force (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) lost in the finals.
