Garrett leads Browns’ sack attack on rookie Bears QB
Defensive end Myles Garrett had a Cleveland-record 4½ sacks on Justin Fields, and the host Browns brought down Chicago’s rookie quarterback nine times — holding him to 1 net yard passing — in his first NFL start as Cleveland thumped the Bears 26-6.
Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney added two sacks for the Browns (2-1), and the Bears (1-2) were outgained 418-47 in yards of offense. Kareem Hunt scored on a 29-yard run in the fourth quarter and finished with
155 yards rushing (81) and receiving (74) combined.
Fields, the draft’s 11th pick, completed 6 of 20 passes for 68 yards. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had five catches for 77 yards for Cleveland in his season debut. Chase Mclaughlin kicked field goals of 57, 52, 41 and 28 yards.
■ Saints 28, Patriots 13: At Foxborough, Mass., Jameis Winston threw two TD passes, and safety Malcolm Jenkins returned an interception 34 yards for a score for New Orleans (2-1). Rookie Mac Jones threw three interceptions for New England (1-2) while absorbing three sacks and 11 hits.
■ Bills 43, Washington 21: At Orchard Park, N.Y., Josh Allen threw for 358 yards and four TDS and ran for a score for Buffalo (2-1), which led 21-0. Taylor Heinicke threw for two TDS with two interceptions in his first road start for Washington (1-2), which yielded 481 yards of offense.
■ Cardinals 31, Jaguars 19: At Jacksonville, Fla., cornerback Byron Murphy had two interceptions for Arizona (3-0), returning one 29 yards for a TD on a botched trick play. Jamal Agnew returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a TD for Jacksonville (0-3), which lost its 18th straight.
