“Citizen Hearst, Episode One,” a two-part, four-hour documentary (concluding tomorrow night), explores the colorful life and times of William Randolph Hearst, one of the most powerful men of the 20th century.
The model for Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane, Hearst controlled the largest media empire in the country by the 1930s and used his communications stronghold to achieve political power unprecedented in the industry, then ran for office himself. Tonight’s first episode traces Hearst’s early life and rise to power.
