STANLEY "DUFFY" GRISMANAUSKAS

-

Stanley "Duffy" Gediminas Grismanauskas, age 73; husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law,

uncle, firefighter, volunteer, friend, mentor, and hero; of Henderson, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021. Duffy

was born December 27, 1947 in Rothenberg ob der Tauber, Germany to parents Stasys and Stefa Grismanauskas as they were fleeing their homeland of Lithuania. Duffy grew up in Chicago, became a U.S. Citizen in 1956, graduated from High School, and enrolled in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June of 1966 and was classified as a RAC Specialist and was transferred to Nellis Air Force Base. He was honorably discharged from active duty April 9, 1970. Duffy was hired by the Clark County Fire Department on September 9, 1972. He

was destined to be a hero and he was many times over. As a rookie, he saved a young girl in an apartment fire after going back into a burning building and finding her buried under clothing. That young lady later in life, sought him out personally to thank him. Duffy fought in the infamous MGM and Hilton fires and of course all fires including the "Swamp". Duffy married Rebecca "Becky" Lomprey in 1976. They worked together on the Police-firefighters football game to benefit victims of crimes, fires and disasters. Together, they distributed and delivered turkey dinners to seniors and others on holidays with the hub in their garage. In 1989, Duffy and his wife,

Becky, built a home and moved to Mt.

Charleston. They both immediately joined the Volunteer Fire Department and became EMT’S. One of Duffy’s many awards included his wife, Becky, the "Hero Husband and Wife Team of the year" for rescue on the mountain, saving the life of a resident. Duffy rode the rescue and the engine on the mountain for many years as a volunteer on his days off from the Clark County Fire Department, while assisting other agencies, responding and training. Tragically, in 2007, their family home in Rainbow Canyon was destroyed by fire. They lost all 6 of their animals. Together, they rebuilt their home and continued to do volunteer work. Duffy was promoted to Rural Coordinator and retained that position until he retired from the Clark County Fire Department on September

13, 2002. However, Duffy, was not quite retired yet. He went on to work for the Nevada Fire Safe Council, assisting in the fire prevention procedures and implementing fuel reduction in the rural areas of Nevada for several years. After his final retirement, he and Becky traveled the fishing circuit and both were able to expand their incredible gardening skills. They both shared the joys of rescuing animals and assisting agencies after the tragic mountain fire of 2013, and the

massive flooding that ensued after it. In 2016, they moved back to Henderson, Nevada. Duffy was a mentor to many; helping them to test and train to be firefighters. He was one of a kind, which is rare in this world today. When he became your friend, he was there for you forever. Duffy was preceded in death by his father, Stasys; mother, Stefa; and brother, Frank. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Becky; sons: Erik (Christy) and Craig (Jana) and their families; brother, Leo (Lorry); sister, Loretta (Al) and their families; five grandsons; and many Nieces and Nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wed., Jan. 19, at Palm Mortuary, 800 S Boulder Hwy., Henderson, NV 89015. Duffy will be laid to rest with Military and Fire Department honors at Palm Henderson Cemetery, in Henderson. Our world was a better place with him in it. He will be

remembered and missed forever.
