GOP traffics in fear and lies

-

For months, the Republican Party-controlled Fox News forecasted the worst Christmas. House Minority Leader Kevin Mccarthy and 159 House Republicans sent a letter to President Joe Biden saying that White House policies “will certainly ensure that this Christmas will not be merry” because of a supply chain crisis and inflation. Fox’s Sean Hannity called the president “the Biden who stole Christmas.”

But Mastercard has reported that holiday retail sales were the highest ever, jumping a whopping 8.5% from last year. Store shelves were stocked. Package deliveries were delivered on time, and motorists in December found gas prices 14 cents a gallon lower than in November.

“America’s economy improved more in Biden’s first 12 months than any president during the past 50 years,” Matthew Winkler, former editor in chief of Bloomberg News, wrote.

The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank noted that the “economy expanded at an estimated 5.5% in 2021 . ... Unemployment plunged to 4.2%. Record-setting U.S. stock markets outperformed the world . ... Productivity jumped. Corporate profits are the largest since 1950 and corporate debt the lowest in 30 years.”

This all happened during Fox News’ hysterical coverage of inflation, gas prices and supply chain problems. Did GOP leaders and Fox News acknowledge they fearmongered by mistake? Not a chance! The good economic news went unreported on Fox.

In the “Big Lie” America, the economy is just another target for Fake/fox News. Unfortunately, many underinformed people listen to it. When will people wake to Fox misinformation? Phil Ventura, North Las Vegas
