Makar, Avs top Blackhawks in OT

CHICAGO — Cale Makar scored on a slick move 2:38 into overtime, and the surging Colorado Avalanche beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Makar skated into the left circle, spun away from Chicago center Kirby Dach and then drove to the net. The defenseman beat former Golden Knights goalie Marcandre Fleury on the stick side for his 14th goal.

Colorado forward Logan O’connor and Chicago captain Jonathan Toews each had a shot go off a post in overtime before Makar’s game-winner. Fellow defenseman Erik Johnson had two goals as Colorado won for the seventh time in eight games. Alex Newhook also scored, and Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves.

Chicago dropped its fifth straight game. Alex Debrincat scored two power-play goals on consecutiv­e shots, and Toews scored in the second period. Fleury finished with 29 stops.

■ Jets 3, Coyotes 1: At Glendale, Ariz., Evgeny Svechnikov, Pierre Luc-dubois and Nikolaj Ehlers each scored to back Connor Hellebuyck, who stopped 26 shots as Winnipeg won its third straight game.

■ Panthers 6, Flames 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Patric Hornqvist scored twice, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped a season-high 47 shots as Florida pushed its win streak to four.

■ Bruins 5, Devils 3: At Boston, David Pastrnak scored the tiebreakin­g goal with 5:49 left in the third period as Boston won its third straight since returning to the ice after six consecutiv­e games were postponed because of COVID-19.

■ Lightning 7, Blue Jackets 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Ondrej Palat had two goals and an assist as Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevski­y stopped 20 shots in his 17th win.

■ Red Wings 6, Sharks 2: At Detroit, Tyler Bertuzzi and Pius Suter each scored twice, including short-handed goals on the same penalty to back Alex Nedeljkovi­c, who made 24 saves.

■ Ducks 4, Flyers 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Troy Terry scored his first NHL hat trick as Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins earned his 100th NHL win behind the bench.
