Padres land left-hander Manaea in trade with A’s

San Diego acquired left-hander Sean Manaea and relief-pitching prospect Aaron Holiday from Oakland for two minor leaguers, right-hander Adrian Martinez and infielder Euribiel Angeles. Manaea, 30, is 50-41 with a 3.86 ERA in six major league seasons, all with the Athletics. He went 11-10 with a 3.91

ERA and a majors-best two shutouts in 32 starts last season, notching 194 strikeouts in 179⅓ innings.

■ Royals: Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., the majors’ consensus top prospect, will be on Kansas City’s opening day roster and play third base. The 21-year-old second pick of the 2019 draft has hit .283 with 34 home runs, 124 RBIS, 129 runs and 38 steals in 161 minor league games across three levels. He has hit .400 (12-for-30) with two homers, seven RBIS, 10 runs, two steals and three strikeouts this spring.

■ White Sox: Right-hander Lance Lynn will undergo surgery to repair a torn right knee tendon sustained Saturday and is expected to be sidelined through May, general manager Rick

Hahn said. The 34-year-old two-time Allstar went 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 28 starts last season.

■ Braves: Reliever Luke Jackson has UCL damage in his right elbow and is sidelined indefinite­ly. The 30-year-old right-hander is coming off the best of his seven major league seasons, notching a 1.98 ERA, 70 strikeouts and 31 holds in 63⅔ innings.

■ Indians: Closer Emmanuel Clase agreed to a five-year, $20 million extension. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 1.55 ERA, 25 saves and 95 strikeouts in 93 major league innings over two seasons.

■ Mets: Eight-time All-star righthande­r Max Scherzer (tight right hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday to determine his availabili­ty to open the season, manager Buck Showalter said.
