Commanders deny holding revenue from visiting teams

-

The Washington Commanders are denying a report that alleged they withheld ticket revenue from visiting teams.

A team spokeswoman said in a statement sent to The Associated Press and other outlets Monday there was “absolutely no withholding of ticket revenue at any time.” She added the revenues are subject to independent audit by multiple parties and “anyone who offered testimony suggesting a withholding of revenue has committed perjury, plain and simple.”

The statement came two days after Front Office Sports reported, citing sources, the U.S Congress’

House Oversight Committee received information to indicate Washington withheld ticket revenue. Front Office Sports reported at least one person gave information to Congressional investigators alleging the team did not pass along the full 40 percent of ticket revenue required by NFL rules.

■ Saints-eagles: New Orleans acquired two first-round picks from Philadelphia in a major swap of assets. The Eagles sent picks Nos. 16 and 19 and a sixth-rounder (No. 194) to the Saints for the 18th overall pick, a third-rounder (No. 101), a seventh-rounder (No. 237), a 2023 first-rounder and a 2024 secondrounder. The move leaves both teams with two firsts later this month when the NFL holds its first draft on the Strip.

Also, the Saints agreed to free-agent contracts with defensive end Taco Charlton and defensive back Justin Evans.

■ Browns: Cleveland signed free agent punter Corey Bojorquez to a twoyear contract. Bojorquez, 25, spent last season with the Green Bay Packers, for whom he averaged 46.5 yards on 53 punts, including a season-best 82 yarder.

■ Jets: New York released tight end Ryan Griffin, who became expendable when the team signed free agents C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin last month. Griffin, 32, had 70 catches for 667 yards and seven touchdowns in three seasons with the Jets. New York saves $3 million on the salary cap with his release.

■ Africa: The NFL is opening a pathway for African players with a three-day developmental camp in Accra, Ghana, in June. The camp will feature players who previously participated at regional events led by Osi Umenyiora, the two-time Super Bowl-winning defensive end with the New York Giants.

■ Raiderettes: Registration for trying out for the Raiderettes will continue until 5 p.m. Friday. To sign up, go to lv.raiders.com/raiderettesauditions/. Tryouts will be April 16 at Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center in Henderson, with final auditions conducted April 19 through 23.
